DIFFERENT WAYS TO SAY “I LOVE READING”
Khi gặp câu hỏi “Do you like reading?”, một số bạn trả lời “Yes, I do.” hoặc “Yes. I like reading.”. Câu trả lời rất đúng trọng tâm rồi. Nhưng để hướng tới yêu cầu “uses paraphrase effectively” trong tiêu chí từ vựng ở Band điểm 7.0 Speaking, các bạn có thể hạn chế lặp lại nhiều từ trong câu hỏi. Bên dưới là một số ví dụ về việc sử dụng paraphrase, các bạn tham khảo nhé.
1. I’m an avid reader.
🔑 avid /ˈævɪd/ (adj): very enthusiastic about sth (often a hobby) (syn: keen) (rất đam mê, hứng thú)
Example:
_ Peter’s father is an avid collector of old stamps.
_ As a keen writer and avid newspaper reader, Jenny had always wanted to be a journalist.
_ He was avid for more information.
2. I’ve always considered myself as a bookworm.
🔑 bookworm /ˈbʊkwɜːm/ (n): a person who likes reading very much; an insect that eats books (mọt sách)
Example:
_ Jim never could understand why the bookworm had to read to gain knowledge.
_ Janet was a real bookworm when she was a child.
3. I’m fond of reading.
🔑 be fond of (doing) sth /fɒnd/: to like sth, especially sth you have liked for a long time
Lưu ý cách phát âm của từ fond /fɒnd/. Từ này hay bị đọc nhầm thành fund /fʌnd/.
Example:
_ I’m fond of cooking.
_ My neighbors are fond of singing karaoke, but they are not good singers.
